liposuction

Liposuction (sometimes shortened to “lipo”) slims and reshapes parts of the body by sucking or breaking down excess fat deposits. It can be used to treat the thighs, hips and buttocks, abdomen, waist, arms, back, and chest. More advanced equipment carried by select liposuction Singapore clinics can be used for smaller areas of the legs (like inner knees and ankles) and the face or neck. Newer techniques like Vaser Lipo combine surgery with laser and ultrasound.

Are you a candidate for liposuction?

Like all surgeries, liposuction has its risks, so your doctor will check your health and medical history before clearing you for the procedure. You are a candidate for this surgery if you are within 30% of your ideal weight (it is not considered a treatment for obesity) and have generally elastic skin and muscle tone.

While liposuction can help contour your body, it cannot treat cellulite or stretch marks. Depending on your case and preferences, your liposuction Singapore doctor may recommend combining it with other treatments to get the body you want. These include tummy tuck, face lift, or breast reduction. Since liposuction doesn’t tighten the skin over the area, you may need other procedures to address sagging.

Healing and recovery

You may need to wear bandages or a compression garment to manage swelling and compress the skin to your new silhouette.  You may also need to have temporary drains placed in incisions for excess fluids. Your doctor will give you medicines to relieve discomfort and prevent infection, as well as instructions on how to care for the area and a date for a follow-up appointment. Total recovery time (and when you can resume work and other normal activity) depends on your own health and the area which was operated on.  However, it may take several weeks for the swelling to completely subside.

Find a licensed liposuction Singapore doctor

Liposuction should only be done by an experienced, board-certified, and experienced surgeon. Be sure to talk to your doctor about any possible risks, especially if you have a history of heart disease or clotting issues, smoke regularly, or have allergies to certain kinds of medications.
