Chemical Peels

Don’t underestimate chemical peels. While this skin peeling treatment may seem “old school” compared to breakthrough lasers and radiofrequency machines, it can treat many concerns: anti-ageing, acne and acne scars, rough skin and wrinkles caused from sun damage. We ask chemical peels Singapore clinics for more information.

What can chemical peels do for my skin?

Many chemical peels Singapore patients turn to this treatment to even out their skin tone, brighten their complexion, and smoothen their skin. They consider skin peeling treatments as an affordable alternative. Dermatologists may also recommend this for treating some kinds of acne or any concern that leads to skin discoloration (such as dark patches from pregnancy or using birth control). They may also use it as an early anti-ageing treatment, since skin peeling can help fix the roughness that appears when cell turnover slows down in our early 30s.

However, chemical peels cannot address sagging skin or deep wrinkles, which are better treated with laser resurfacing, fillers, or a facelift.

What happens during a chemical peels Singapore treatment?

Your doctor will first look at your skin to see the best chemical peel for you. He may decide what type of formula to use (such as glycolic acid, trichloroacetic acid, salicylic acid, lactic acid, or carbolic acid), the best concentration, and whether to combine it with other ingredients.

The treatment usually begins with cleansing, followed by application of the skin peeling solution. You may feel a slight burning or stinging sensation – not very painful, but can cause discomfort – which lasts for about 5 to 10 minutes. The deeper the peel, the more discomfort you may feel. You can apply cold compresses or take pain medicines.

Your skin may feel red and sensitive for a few days after the skin peeling. Chemical peels Singapore patients say it’s similar to what you’d feel or look with a mild sunburn. Your new skin is fragile, so it’s important to wear a high SPF sunscreen and avoid direct sun exposure.
