Double Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty) is one of the most commonly requested Singapore aesthetics procedures. Nearly 50% of Asians are born with a monolid, or a single eyelid that either don’t have a deep crease or just have a thin or partial crease. While there is nothing wrong with a monolid eye shape, some Asians would like to enhance their features and make their eyes look bigger.
And contrary to popular opinion, many of them don’t get double eyelid surgery to look Caucasian. “I got the procedure because I thought it would complement my features more, not because I wasn’t proud of looking Asian,” says Sarah L., who opted for the Singapore aesthetics procedure late last year. She also feels that after having her double eyelid surgery, it is easier for her to apply makeup since she doesn’t have to create the illusion of the crease with eyeshadow.
In fact, double eyelid surgery can look very natural, and the change is big enough to improve your features but subtle enough that it doesn’t draw attention to the fact that you’ve “had something done.”
Double eyelid surgery is so popular among Asians that some aesthetics doctors specialize in “Asian Biepharoplasty” which uses special techniques to create a natural looking crease on the Asian facial structure. However, Singapore aesthetics clinics are certainly used to an Asian clientele.
Double eyelid surgery is a fairly straightforward procedure. The doctor will remove some skin, tissue, and fat pads in such a way that as the skin heals, the incision line is hidden in the new crease. It is an outpatient cosmetic surgery and you can go home right after to heal in the privacy of your home, though you will be given instructions on how to care for the eye area.
The crease may appear higher in the first few days and weeks after the surgery, but over time, it will settle into the desired level and shape.
If you are considering having double eyelid surgey done, you can talk to several doctors and ask about their experience or look at photos of previous clients, and set realistic expectations as well of what you look like after the procedure.
